In Yyteri the sand dunes are a genuine work of nature: A sand bed, formed by the edge of a huge mass of ice in the ice age, reaches from Yyteri as far as to Kokemäki. This kind of fine-grained and light coloured sand is rarely found even on the beaches of the South.
Yyteri is an important resting place for migratory arctic waders. An autumn storm on the sands at Yyteri is an impressive sight, and each spring migratory birds flock in immense numbers at river mouth, attracting bird-watchers from all over the country. Migration of birds can be followed on the net pages of Birdlife Suomi, area Satakunta. The observation towers and platforms are marked on the map "Bird Towers of Pori". |
