PORI, A VIBRANT CITY WITH SPIRIT

Located at the mouth of the Kokemäenjoki River, Pori is an interesting combination of old and new. It is one of Finland´s oldest towns, whose long history can be seen everywhere - in the town plan, local architecture, business and commerce and even cuisine.

But the glorious past is matched by a solid focus on the present. Pedestrian streets, shopping centres and major cultural events make Pori an interesting site for tourist, a wonderful place to live, and a good location for business.

- Finland´s ninth largest city
- Approximately 77,000 inhabitants
- A city of industries, with over 4,300 firms and enterprises

For many people, Pori is above all a summer city.
Leafy Kirjurinluoto island in the middle of the town is at its best when the sun shines down on people enjoying the beach on a summer day. But despite its reputation as a summer city, Pori is very much alive throughout the rest of the year.

An autumn storm on the sands at Yyteri is an impressive sight, and each spring migratory birds flock in immense numbers at the river mouth, attracting bird-watchers from all over the country. Winter in Pori is a season of theatre, art exhibitions and concerts.

Local delicacies
The Province of Satakunta, with Pori as its centre, is known for good food. The most traditional treat is smoked river lamprey, caught in the autumn. Not everyone has a penchant for this strange-looking delicacy, but few can resist "nailed whitefish". Nailed to a plank and slowly prepared before an open fire, the whitefish is so juicy than hardly needs any sauce to go with it. It seeds about an hour to cook, and flames must not touch the fish at any stage.

Fish is a respected delicacy in this town by the river and the sea. Baltic herring is made in dozens of diffirent ways, and the autumn offers a veritable feast when the traditional herring market is held in September.

Pori is also known as a place where good beverages are valued. Brewing has long beverages are valued. Brewing has long traditions, dating back to the days of crown manor of Ulvila. This noble art has been kept in Pori, and today Porin Karhu (Bear of Pori) is a favourite brand among beer-drinkers, just like many other Pori-made brands of the past, some of which are experiencing a renaissance.

Pori is full of spirit the year round. Welcome to visit us in the throbbing heart of Satakunta economic region of Finland.
